I Made Wiguna Valasara

Indonesia

Made Wiguna Valasara (b. 1983, Bali) As the place where he was born and grew up, Bali and its daily traditions have influenced the works of I Made Wiguna Valasara in their own way. After completing his higher education at the Department of Sculpture and Painting, ISI Yogyakarta, Valasara saw that canvas is not only a supporting medium, but also a language in fine arts.

This perspective challenges her to respond to the canvas by creating contour, texture, and volume by sewing and filling the canvas, rather than brushing and painting over it. In recent years, Valasara has turned adat into a source of anxiety and inspiration. His attention is mainly absorbed in the process of tug-of-war between individuality (along with freedom of thought and opinion) and communality, in the context of the construction of Balinese society and all of its traditional rites and religious activities.
