Farhan Siki

Farhan Siki (b. 1971) in Lamongan, East Java Province, Indonesia. He lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

A self-taught artist, he has graduated from the History Department of Cultural Science Studies, University of Jember, Indonesia. He was the winner of the Jakarta Art Award in 2010. He has exhibited his works in Indonesia as well as abroad in several shows, among which Indonesian Eye, Saatchi Gallery, London, Cultural Brigde, Wendt Gallery, New York, and Implosion: Imperfect Signs, Promo Marella Gallery, Milan, Italy, in 2011.

Recognized as a street artist and an activist who works intesively on issues facing the urban community, in his works,  Siki reflects about the pop culture of the 21st Century, exploring textual elements, collecting logos, brands, and symbols of mass culture, in order to put them on canvas, charging them with hyperbolic attributes and parody. In his artworks, the urban life and the ever-increasing consumerist culture we encounter in our daily life crash in a loud splash of colour, satirizing the contemporary art system that, for certain artists, has become a sort of "star system".
